? Core Concept (Khái niệm cốt lõi)
A
contraction is a shortened form of two words combined. We use an
apostrophe (‘) to show where letters have been left out. Contractions are very common in spoken and informal written English.
(Contraction là dạng rút gọn của hai từ kết hợp lại. Chúng ta dùng dấu nháy đơn (‘) để thay thế cho những chữ cái bị lược bỏ. Contractions rất phổ biến trong văn nói và văn viết thân mật.)

2. Grammar Explanations (Giải thích ngữ pháp)
Point 1: Pronoun-Verb Contractions
Contractions can be formed by joining a pronoun with a helping verb (like ‘be’, ‘will’, ‘have’, or ‘would’). An apostrophe takes the place of the missing letters.
Structure: Pronoun + ‘ + shortened verb
- They are at home now → They’re at home now. (replaces ‘a’)
- You will be disappointed → You’ll be disappointed. (replaces ‘wi’)
- We will dine in → We’ll dine in. (replaces ‘wi’)
Point 2: Negative Contractions
A negative contraction is formed by joining a verb with the word ‘not’. The apostrophe replaces the letter ‘o’ in the word ‘not’.
Structure: Verb + n’t
- She does not have a pass → She doesn’t have a pass. (replaces ‘o’)
- Do not leave without me → Don’t leave without me. (replaces ‘o’)
- Tulips are not in season → Tulips aren’t in season. (replaces ‘o’)
⚠️ Watch Out! (Lưu ý quan trọng)
Be careful with
It’s (contraction for ‘it is’ or ‘it has’) versus
Its (possessive adjective meaning ‘of it’).
Example:
It’s a beautiful dog. Look at its shiny fur!

2 – True: “they’re” is correctly spelled and properly stands for “they are” in this phrase. (“they’re” được viết đúng chính tả và đại diện chính xác cho “they are”.)
