2. Grammar Presentation

Grammar Point 1: Adverbs of Manner (-ly)

Adverbs of manner tell us how an action is performed. Most are formed by adding -ly to an adjective. They typically modify the verb and describe the style or quality of the action.

Structure Verb + Adverb (Adjective + ly)
Examples
  • Leah happily agreed to play tennis.
  • Andrea returns the ball expertly.
  • The ball flies swiftly over the net.

Grammar Point 2: Adverbs of Time and Place

These adverbs tell us when (time) or where (place) an action happens. Unlike adverbs of manner, they often do not end in -ly and are essential for providing structural context to the sentence.

Structure Subject + Verb + Adverb
Examples
  • Let’s pitch our tent here. (Adverb of Place)
  • Ted and Mario always go camping in March. (Adverb of Time/Frequency)
  • The ball buzzed close to the ground. (Adverb of Place)
