Unit 1: Relationships and Our Environment

Illustration 1

Understanding Our World

In this unit, we learn about the people and creatures around us. An animal is a living thing that is not a human or a plant. Many families have a pet animal at home. We often do things together, which means we are with each other in a group. When we arein a group, we use the word We to talk about ourselves and others. For example, “We play games.” It is important to know words that describe size. Something can be big or small. People can be short or tall. When we look at objects, we can see if they are the same or different.

We also learn about how we act. An activity is something we do, like playing or working. When we work together to help each other, we cooperate. This makes tasks easier. In our environment, things might change, or become different over time. We also learn the sounds letters make. The letter mmakes the sound /m/ like in “mouse”. The letter a makes the sound /a/ like in “apple”.
