1. Vocabulary: Describing Films, Plays, and Musicals
We use specific words to describe the types of entertainment we watch. A comedy is a film that tries to make the audience laugh. A science fiction film is often set in the future and may feature robots or space travel. A horror film contains strangeand frightening events. A musical uses songs and dancing to tell the story. A documentary shows real-life events or stories. We also use adjectives to give our opinions. Common adjectives includefunny, boring, frightening, moving (making you feel strong emotions), violent, and dull (not interesting).
Grammar Focus: Will / Won’t for Predictions
We use will and won’t (will not) to make predictions about the future. This expresses what we think or guess will happen.
- Positive: I think the film will be great.
- Negative: It won’t rain tonight.
- Question: Willpeople live on other planets?
