Bài học: Do you want to come? / Free Time

Unit 2: Doyou want to come? / Free Time

1. Grammar: There is / There are & Describing Places

We use thereis and there are to explain the general features of aplace. Use there is for singular nouns and there are for plural nouns.

  • Singular: There is a beach. Thereis not (isn’t) a theatre. Is there a museum?
  • Plural:There are lots of shops. There are not (aren’t) many cafes. Are there any parks?

When describing places, we often use adjectives like expensive, cheap, beautiful, boring, noisy, quiet, clean, and polluted. Remember, adjectives usually come before the noun (an old city) or after the verb ‘to be’ (The city is old).
