Vocabulary: Trains and Transport
Trains and Stations: Train travel is a major way for people to get around. Trains move on tracks madeof steel rails and have railroad cars (or carriages) that attach to each other. Passengers wait on a platform at thestation. A conductor checks tickets. Trains can be commuter trains (for work) or for long distances. Sometimes trains are crowded, and you must hold a handle or pole.
Other Transport: We also use cars, buses, planes,and ferries. A passenger is a person travelling in a vehicle who is not driving.
Grammar: Quantifiers (Too much, Too many, Not enough)
We use too much with uncountable nouns (e.g., time, traffic, sugar) to say there is an excessive amount [4, 5].
Example: There is too much traffic.
We usetoo many with plural countable nouns (e.g., cars, people, bags) [4, 5].
Example: There are too many people on the train.
We use not enough to say we have less thanwe need. It goes before nouns.
Example: There isn’t enough time tobuy a ticket.
Grammar: Superlative Adjectives
Use superlatives to compare three or more things. Use the before the adjective.
- One syllable: add -est (e.g., fast → the fastest).
- Two+ syllables: use the most (e.g., expensive → the most expensive).
- Ending in -y: change y to i + -est (e.g., busy → the busiest).
- Irregular: good → the best, bad → the worst, far → the farthest/furthest.
