1. Vocabulary: Computers and the Internet
Technology is an important part of our daily lives. We use computers and the internet to work, study, and play. Here are some key terms:
- Monitor/Screen: The part of the computer where you see pictures and words.
- Keyboard: The buttons you press to type letters and numbers.
- Mouse: A device you move to point and click on things on the screen.
- Website: A place on the internet with information (e.g., Google, Wikipedia).
- Download: To take a filefrom the internet to your computer.
- Virus: Abad program that can hurt your computer.
We perform many actions with technology. We surf the web, save documents so we don’t lose them, and delete things we don’t need.
2. Grammar: Adverbs of Manner
We use adverbs to describe how we do an action. Adjectives describe nouns (people/things), but adverbs describe verbs (actions).
Rule: Usually, add -ly to an adjective.
- Quick →Quickly (He types quickly.)
- Careful → Carefully (She opens the file carefully.)
- Bad → Badly (The computer works badly.)
Exceptions:
- Good → Well (He plays video games well.)
- Fast → Fast (This download is going fast.)
- Hard → Hard (We work hard.)
3. Grammar: Be Thinking of + -ing
We use the phrase be thinking of + verb-ing to talk about future plans that we are considering but haven’t fully decided on yet.
Examples:
I am thinking of buying a new laptop.
She is thinking of creating a website.
