Topic Overview: Amazing Animals

Welcome to Unit 9! In this unit, we will explore the amazing world of living things. We will look at creatures thatlive on land and in the ocean. We will learn to tell the difference between fantasy and reality. A fantasy story might have a dog that can fly, but in reality, dogs cannot fly.

We will also study insects. An insect is a small animal that hassix legs and three body parts. Some insects, like bees and ants, are very interesting to watch. We must look closely to see if a bug is an insect!

Grammar & Phonics Focus

We will practice using the words he and she for people and animals. We also use the word has to show what someone owns. For phonics, we will listen forthe sounds of g (as in girl), w (as in water), x (as in fox), and v (as in van).

Finally, we will look at opposite words: fast and slow, high and low, fat and thin, and narrow and wide.
