Topic Focus: The Memory Palace
A memory palace is a technique to help you remember things by seeing them in your mind. It is based on the idea that humans are very good at remembering places they know well. To build one, you visualize a room or a route you know perfectly. Then, you place the items you need to remember (like vocabulary or lists) onto specific objects in that room. For example, if you need to remember the word ‘biology’, you might imagine a skeleton sitting on your sofa. Research in Neuron magazine suggests that peoplewho use this method can remember significantly more vocabulary than those who don’t. Experts like Anthony Metivier use this method to remember almost everything.
