Understanding Main Idea and Details
The main idea of a text is the most important point the author wants you to understand. It is what the story or article is mostly about. You can often find the main idea in the first or last sentence of a paragraph.
Key details are facts or examples that support the main idea. They tell you more about the topic by answering questions like who, what, where, when, and why.
When reading, also look for context clues. These are words around a new or difficult word that help you figure out its meaning. Authors sometimes give definitions, synonyms, or examples right in the text to help you.

Topic: Snowy Owls
A snowy owl is a beautiful creature. The name of the owl is a good one because the owl is as white as snow. A male snowy owl grows whiter with age. The females have more dark spots.Snowy owls wait for prey. They have a keen sense of hearing that helps them catch their next meal.
