Unit 3: Future Forms
Grammar Overview
1. Near Future (Present Continuous): We use the present continuous (am/is/are + verb-ing) for fixed future arrangements, often with a time expression (e.g., tomorrow, next week).
Example: I am staying at home tonight. What are you doing tomorrow evening?
2. Future with ‘Will’: We use ‘will’ (or ‘ll) for predictions based on opinion, promises, or decisions made at the moment of speaking.
Example: I think it will rain. I will help you with that bag.
3. Future with ‘Going to’: We use ‘be going to’ for future plans and intentions, or predictions based on present evidence.
Example: I am going to meet Jill for lunch. Look at those black clouds; it is going to rain.
4. Future Continuous: Use ‘will be + verb-ing’ to talk about an action in progress at a specific time in the future.
Example: At 8:15, Kevin will be watching the game.
Advanced Note: Future Perfect & ‘Be’ + Infinitive
FuturePerfect: Use ‘will have + past participle’ for actions completed before a specific future time.
Example: By Monday, Susan will have had my book for a month.
‘Be’ + Infinitive: Use ‘am/is/are + to + verb’ for formal schedules, official arrangements, or instructions.
Example: The Prime Minister is to visit India next month. You are to do your homework immediately.
Exercise 1: Present Continuous for Future
Complete the sentences using the present continuous form of the verbs in brackets to show future arrangements.

Exercise 2: Will vs. Going To
Choose the correct form (Will or Be Going To) based on the context.
1. Look at those dark clouds! It (will / is going to) rain.
2. I think I (will / am going to) have the beef, please. (Decision at moment of speaking)
3. We (will / are going to) visit our grandparents this weekend. It’s already planned.
4. I promise I (will / am going to) call you tonight.

Exercise 3: Future Continuous
Put the verbs in brackets into the Future Continuous tense (will be doing).

Exercise 4: Future Perfect
Complete the sentences using the Future Perfect tense (will have done).
