Grammar: Writing Complete Sentences

1. Complete Sentence

A sentence has a subject (who or what) and a predicate (what happens).

Example: The river is wide.

2. Subject and Predicate

Subject: The person, place, or thing the sentence is about.

Predicate: Tells what the subject does or is.

Example: The lake (subject) is very deep (predicate).

3. Topic Sentence

The first sentence in a paragraph. Introduces the main idea.

Example: Rivers are important for many animals.

4. Concluding Sentence

The last sentence in a paragraph. Summarizes the idea.

Example: In conclusion, rivers provide food and water for people and animals.
