Grammar

Present Tense Verbs

Use the present tense to talk about actions happening now or regularly.

  • I swim every morning.
  • She draws pictures on weekends.

Correcting Verbs Not in Present Tense

If a verb is in the wrong tense, change it to the present tense for current actions.

  • Wrong: I swam today. → Correct: I swim today.
  • Wrong: She drew a cat. → Correct: She draws a cat.

Dialogue Reporting Speech

When telling what someone said, use reported speech.

  • "I like chocolate," she said. → She said that she liked chocolate.
  • "We go hiking every Sunday," they said. → They said that they go hiking every Sunday.

Examples

Example 1: Present Tense

Maria jogs in the park every morning.

Example 2: Correcting Tense

He ate ice cream yesterday. → He eats ice cream every day.

Example 3: Reporting Speech

“I like drawing,” said Tom. → Tom said that he liked drawing.
