I can understand and use common BEAR phrasal verbs in everyday English.

The verb bear often means "carry", "accept", "support", or "deal with". In phrasal verbs, it can have several different meanings.

Many BEAR phrasal verbs are connected with ideas such as pressure, patience, support, remembering, and proving something.

Target Vocabulary

1. bear off sth

Meaning: to win a prize, victory, or success.

Example: She bore off first prize in the competition.

2. bear down

Meaning: to work harder or put in more effort.

Example: We need to bear down and finish the project.

3. bear down on sb/sth

Meaning: to move toward someone or something in a threatening or strong way.

Example: The storm was bearing down on the town.

4. bear on sth

Meaning: to be related to or affect something.

Example: These facts bear on the decision.

5. bear sth out

Meaning: to show that something is true.

Example: The research bears out his idea.

6. bear up

Meaning: to stay strong during a difficult time.

Example: She is bearing up well after the accident.

7. bear in mind

Meaning: to remember something important.

Example: Bear in mind that the shop closes at 6 p.m.

8. bear with sb

Meaning: to be patient with someone.
