Grammar 1: Present Simple Questions

Form

Do + subject + base verb ... ?

Examples:

Why do we use it?

We use present simple questions to ask about needs, wants, habits, or facts.

Question: Do you want the price?
Answer: Yes, I do.
Question: Do you need information?
Answer: No, I don't.

Grammar 2: Can for Requests and Offers of Help

Form

Can + subject + base verb ... ?

We use can to offer help or make a request.

  • Can I help you?
  • Can you send the information?
  • Can you answer my question?

After can, use the base verb.

Answering "Do you...?" Questions

Short answers are polite and natural in conversations.

Why?

  • "Hello" = greeting
  • "Can I help you?" = offer of help
  • "I need information." = simple answer
