Grammar

Can for Ability

We use can to talk about what we are able to do.

  • I can run fast.
  • She can jump high.

Negative: I cannot / can't dance.

Question: Can you play football?

Imperative

We use the imperative to give instructions or commands. The subject "you" is not needed.

  • Run fast!
  • Jump high!
  • Dance with your friends!

Present Continuous

We use the present continuous to talk about actions happening now.

  • I am running.
  • She is jumping over the rope.
  • We are playing a game.

Structure: Subject + am/is/are + verb + -ing

Worked Examples

Example 1: Talk about your ability.

Q: What can you do?
A: I can run fast and play football.

Example 2: Use imperative to give instructions.

Q: Tell your friend to dance.
A: Dance with me!

Example 3: Describe what people are doing now.

Q: What is your friend doing?
A: She is jumping and running outside.
