I can understand and use everyday English to talk about Week 9 words.

In this unit, you learn five useful high-frequency words:

  • always
  • those
  • both
  • paper
  • together

Vocabulary

1. always

Meaning: every time; all the time.

Example: I always do my homework after school.

2. those

Meaning: used for people or things that are far away.

Example: Those books are on the table.

3. both

Meaning: two people or two things together.

Example: Both boys are happy.

4. paper

Meaning: thin material used for writing or drawing.

Example: Please write your name on the paper.

5. together

Meaning: with another person or group.

Example: We play games together.

Word Use Patterns

Using "always"

Pattern: Subject + always + verb

Examples:

  • I always read at night.
  • She always smiles.
  • We always eat breakfast.

Using "those"

Pattern: Those + plural noun

Examples:

  • Those flowers are beautiful.
  • Those shoes are new.
  • Those students are my friends.

Using "both"

Pattern: Both + plural noun

Examples:

  • Both cats are sleeping.
  • Both books are interesting.
  • Both friends are here.

Using "together"

Pattern: Subject + verb + together

Examples:

  • We study together.
  • They sing together.
  • My family eats together.

Worked Examples

Example 1

Sentence: I always bring paper to class.

Why? "Always" tells us this happens every time.

Example 2

Sentence: Those pictures are very nice.

Why? "Those" points to pictures that are farther away.

Example 3

Sentence: Both girls work together.

Why?

  • "Both" means the two girls.
  • "Together" means they do the activity with each other.
