Unit Goal

Can-do: Use common high-frequency words in simple daily sentences.

In this unit, you will learn five useful words:

  • watch
  • face
  • eat
  • enough
  • idea

Vocabulary

1. watch

Meaning: to look at something for some time.

I watch TV every night.

We watch a movie on Saturday.

2. face

Meaning: the front part of your head with your eyes, nose, and mouth.

She has a happy face.

Wash your face in the morning.

3. eat

Meaning: to put food in your mouth and swallow it.

I eat breakfast at 7 o'clock.

They eat rice for lunch.

4. enough

Meaning: as much as needed.

I have enough water.

We have enough chairs for everyone.

5. idea

Meaning: a thought or plan.

That is a good idea.

I have an idea for our project.

Picture and Words

Exercise Context

You can use several Unit 16 words to describe the picture:

  • The family eats dinner.
  • The child watches TV.
  • Everyone has a happy face.
  • There is enough food on the table.
  • Mom has an idea for a family game.

Useful Grammar Patterns

Verb + Object

We often use watch and eat with an object.

  • I watch TV.
  • She watches a movie.
  • We eat apples.
  • They eat lunch.

Using "enough"

Use enough to show that something is sufficient.

  • I have enough money.
  • There is enough food.
  • We have enough time.

Using "idea"

We often say:

  • I have an idea.
  • That is a good idea.
  • What a great idea!

Example 1

Sentence: I watch TV after school.

Meaning: I look at television programs after school.

Example 2

Sentence: We have enough food for dinner.

Meaning: The food is sufficient. We do not need more.
