Grammar Theory: The Four Conditionals
Conditionalsdescribe the result of a certain condition. The “if” clause sets the condition, and the main clause provides the result.

Note: In the Second Conditional, we usually use were instead of was for all subjects (e.g., If I were you…).

Exercise 1: Zero and First Conditionals
Match the two halves of the sentences to form correct Zero or First Conditional statements.

Exercise 2: Second Conditional
Complete the sentences with the correct form of the verbs in brackets. Remember to use the past simple in the ‘if’ clause and ‘would’ in the main clause.

2. If I (have) ______ a million dollars, I (buy) ______ a big house.

Use the Second Conditional for imaginary situations.
Exercise 3: Third Conditional
Put the verbs into the correct form to make Third Conditional sentences (unreal past).
